Skillet is amazing. It's one of those places that makes me proud to live in Columbus, because the food is so perfectly done, not overdone, and a lot of it local. (And it's in my neighborhood, I'm so spoiled!) Carrie and I went last Saturday and she was so excited to try it she could hardly contain herself.
It's a small small place. With nice lighting, a happy busy vibe and all the tables crunched tightly together European style where you think, almost certainly someone is eavesdropping on your conversation. (Then you realize that 1. You're not listening to anybody else, all the noise around you is one white blanket so whey would they be listening to yours? Also, 2. I'm almost certain they would tune out immediately realizing that the majority of our conversation was that sort of half sentenced, inside jokey conversational shorthand that you have with a good friend. )
The menu was simple but inspired. It changes constantly (don't you love that?) so if you see something you want to try, go for it! Carrie had the Biscuits and Gravy with Andouille Sausage. Creamy and spicy and a HUGE portion.
I had the Duck and Sweet Potato Folded Egg Omelet. It was drizzled in some sort of BBQ-like sauce and the combination was unreal. I ate the whole entire thing. Except the biscuit. That was my only complaint honestly...but it was cold and I really thought it should have been served hot, or at least a little warm.
The service was great, and the coffee was perfect. Seriously, some of the best coffee I've had in a long time. I can't wait to go back.
