The Jury Room has recently reopened under the golden touch of Elizabeth Lessner. (See also Betty's, Surly Girl, Tip Top & Dirty Franks).
Annie, Lakshmi and I went (several weeks ago now) for a quick dinner before I left town for Canada. I'd been to the Jury Room a few times before it was remade but I really enjoyed this latest incarnation. It has the feel of a bar that's been around for ages. Under the sign outside are the words "Beer Hall" but to me the atmosphere was a little more speakeasy...
And I liked it!
A favorite off the beaten path place where locals know that the Gin Ricky is not to be missed.
Tanqueray Gin, with splashes of fresh lime & club soda ($5)
(I'd stick with the cocktails though, a lot of the wine was from a box and although I've had my share of good boxed wine...this wasn't it.)
We started the meal with the Truffle Fries. And really, I shouldn't have to say any more about them...just look. You can see they were delicious.
Delicious fresh-cut potatoes, tossed in truffle oil & shaved parmesan, served with spicy aioli ($5)
Fresh mozzarella, grilled tomatoes & asparagus topped with arugula, our own house vinaigrette & balsamic reduction, served on grilled slices of eggplant, instead of a bun ($8)
Prince Edward Island mussels steamed with leeks, garlic, tomatoes, celery & parsley in a white wine broth, served with grilled garlic bread ($9)
Jumbo shrimp grilled & served over crispy fried polenta cakes, grilled asparagus & traditional gremolata ($15)
Oh and we all had some of this delicious Arugula Salad. Simple and tasty with nice super fresh greens.
Baby arugula tossed with parmesan, croutons, black pepper & tossed in a simple Italian vinaigrette ($3.50)
Wow, the food looks absolutely amazing!
