Last night....was great fun. Carrie and I went to La Fogata in the Short North for delicious food and generally OK drinks in-spite of the fact that the service was atrocious. I first got there at about 5:05 and sat on the patio for about 10 minutes and nobody offered me a drink, or a menu, or really acknowledged my presence. When I got a text from Carrie that she was running late....I just got up and left...and went to do a little window shopping.
Total Tangent: Do you know about Lady Bird??
I did NOT know about Lady Bird. I asked the cute girls in the shop how long they'd been there and she said 3 years....doh! Well, it's new to me...and it's precious. Full of gorgeous (albeit a little pricey) clothes from brands like Waverly (LOVE) and MinkPink- it's a beautifully decorated little shop with a well edited collection of ladies clothes, jewelry and accessories.
Anytangent....La Fogata...when I got back Carrie was there waiting with chips and salsa (YAY) but no water. (It's a pet peeve...and I'll own it...but I don't think you should have to ask for water in a restaurant...I think everyone at the table should get one upon sitting down. This is especially the case when they are serving you chips and salsa or bread or something of the like!! Fail #1, La Fogata!!) We ordered the Original Margaritas-on the rocks-which were ok...in that they went down easy, but basically really weak. I'm fairly certain that Carrie and I have the power of invisibility (all the trouble we couldn't gotten into if we'd only realized sooner!!) because we were generally ignored by our server unless we literally interrupted her while she was helping another table or stepped into her line of sight as she was flying by without even glancing our direction. Once we finally did gain an audience with her we ordered a round of Dos Equis and some Shrimp Fajitas.
I had the Camarones Mexicanas:
and Carrie had the Camarones Diablo:
Both were pretty tasty and we had a nice big bowl of guac to seal the deal. I was glad that they managed to cook the shrimp without turning it to rubber and I thought the amount of spice in mine was just right. I'm not sure it was any better than El Vaq or Cucos -food wise and the service and prices didn't even come close to comparison. Basically....good food and good fun, but La Fail, La Fogata.
Their saving grace is that they have a glorious patio just perfect for sitting in the sun and gossiping people watching, and giggling.
Last time Carrie and I went out we ended the evening in the parking lot doing an impromptu photo shoot with Fox Fox. Somethings just have to be kept a secret but I assure you, last night wasn't lacking in any silliness either, promise. Carrie- I enjoyed our evening and especially our nature walk.
Sandals, Smiles and Sunshine again soon, ok??

YES! More of all the above! And Nature Walks can be our new code for any type of after-dinner mischief.
