Happy Monday, Here's pictures of delicious Pizza.
On Friday afternoon Husband and I decided we were going to finally go to Yellow Brick Pizza over in Old Town East. I've been meaning to go for a while and just hadn't gotten around to it...since he was working late I decided I could totally get in a quick nap before he picked me up at 7 for our date. A DATE. And because he would be swinging by to pick me up on the way from the office it would be like the kinda dates we went on during
Except, instead of a quick nap, I took an EPIC nap, and when he came looking for me at 7:30 because I'd had my phone on silent and wasn't answering...he found me passed out/spooning the dog/sound asleep in the pitch dark in a pair of his old pajama pants.
No matter, I cleaned myself up right quick and we went and had some delicious wood fired pizza which was NOT quick. I read the reviews online and saw a few complaints that they were a little slow on the service end, but the pizza was great.
We ordered one with green peppers, sausage and mushroom and it was perfection. The best part about the wood fire pizza is the crust is never greasy. I maybe ate almost half of it. But it took about an hour and 15 minutes from when we sat down to when it came out. And we had to keep flagging down our server to get our water refilled. And we ordered wings that were supposed to take 15 minutes but actually came out AFTER the pizza. They were fantastic though. The perfect amount of spicy and they were baked, not fried, which was nice.
Our server was apologetic about the wait, but more at the level you would expect if you got regular instead of diet coke...just a "yeah, sorry guys," when in my opinion...15 minute wings that actually took about 90 minutes is really more of a "hey sorry, someone forgot about them so they're on the house," type thing.
That said, it's a fun place, great atmosphere, with delicious food, and an inspired draft list. We had something called "In Heat Wheat," a Hefeweizen that was pretty great. I'll go back, for sure. Lots of young couples, families and groups and it was good to see the place busy considering there isn't much else around, aside from The Angry Baker just across the street. (I CANNOT wait to try that place out. I heart the name.)
So yeah, I'll go back to Yellow Brick. It did take a little longer than you would expect for just pizza, but we did go out to dinner to talk and hang out, and was it really so bad to sit around drinking beer and enjoying the atmosphere and the delicious pie? No. So go, try it out. Bring a couple friends, leave your cell phones in your pockets, and just enjoy...
Oh and Ps.
Just for fun, this is the look I get from Mike when we go out to dinner these days. I think I embarrass him when I take pictures of my food, which is strange because I have done and will most certainly do WAY more embarrassing things than take pictures of my dinner...
